Claremont Energy

In 2003, Mr. Caplan founded Claremont Energy, a private equity firm for renewable and alternative energy. The other founders are now principals with London Economics, Delphos International, and Renewable Energy Trust Capital. One founder was the grandson of eminent scientist Roger Revelle, a pioneer in the field of climate change.  The activities of Claremont Energy included:

  • Investments in utility-scale power plants that generated electricity from biomass or natural gas
  • Venture capital for developer acquired by Duke Energy for $50 million
  • Advisory services to leading investors for their acquisitions of power plants
  • Development of biomass power plants in California
  • Pre-development of utility-scale solar projects in El Salvador

Design Real Estate

In 2003, Mr. Caplan also founded Design Real Estate to develop residential properties in Boston, Massachusetts. Two of the founders were architects whose projects included the United States Institute for Peace, Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, Toronto International Airport, and Guangdong Science Center.
